Oneota Film Festival invites you to special film celebration! We are happy to support Decorah filmmaker Cade Loven's Screening/Fundraiser Event on December 20, 2015 at T'Bock's Upstairs at 6pm.
You may remember Cade as a barrista at Java John's or a clerk at the Decorah Library or as the OFF Student Micro-Film Seminar Developer and Instructor for two years. He graduated from Luther in '09 and the University of Iowa Film Program in '12.
Cade is a now a student at the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, California. In the second year at AFI, students spend the whole year working on one big short film, their thesis film. These are allowed to be distributed so that means once they're finished, the films go on to the festival circuit. Cade is working on two separate AFI Thesis films in two separate capacities:
He is the producer of "PLEA" -- A gritty drama set in the world of juvenile detention in the heart of Los Angeles, while they follow a 16 year old detainee who must make a choice between love and freedom.
He is the screen-writer of "MANNERS OF DYING" -- Based on the short story by Yann Martel ("Life of Pi") which he got the rights to this spring. The story follows a young man on death-row, who experiences his own execution repeatedly in a loop.
[Cade's NOTE: it's pure coincidence that both of these movies take place in prisons haha. The tone and style of the two projects are totally different]]
Student filmmakers at AFI have to raise the funds for these thesis films themselves as part of their practice. In this endeavor, the Oneota Film Festival agreed with Cade's thought it would be a great idea to get the arts/cultural community of Decorah involved.
So come and see some unique films that you won't be able to see anywhere else on the planet on December 20 at 6pm. There will be a cash bar, of course. Cade will show two or three short films he and his directors have done at AFI. Cade will talk about the two projects he is raising funds for. And Cade promises that there will be much mingling and chatting :-)
Join OFF in celebrating and supporting Cade's projects.
